Shock at Lynx Pregame Notes




The Minnesota Lynx host the Tulsa Shock at 7 p.m. tonight. Fans can listen to the game by turning their radio to BOB 106.1 FM or watch it on WNBA LiveAccess.

What should you be looking for during tonight's game? Here are a few notes to prepare you for tonight's battle:

  • Tonight is Rebekkah Brunson Bobblehead Night presented by Boost Mobile. The first 2,500 fans to attend tonights game will receive an exclusive Rebekkah Brunson bobblehead, the first of her career.


  • Minnesota enters tonight a WNBA-best 17-5, including winning 10 of 11 at Target Center this season. Dating back to the start of 2011 the Lynx have been nearly unbeatable at home, holding a 40-5 record (including 26-2 since the start of 2012) in the friendly confines of Target Center.


  • After an 11-point victory on July 13 in Tulsa, the Lynx have now won 14 straight (by an average of 15.5 points per game) against the Shock dating back to the 2010 season. Since moving to Tulsa, the Lynx are 16-2 against the Shock (25-11 all-time).


  • The Lynx tallied 24 points off of Washingtons 20 turnovers last Thursday, the eighth time in their past 12 games theyve recorded 20+ points off turnovers. Theyre averaging 20.5 points off turnovers during the stretch, improving their season average to 17.7 (second in the WNBA). Entering tonight, Tulsa ranks last in the league in preventing points off turnovers, allowing 18.3 per game.


  • One of the keys to tonights game will be Minnesotas ability to score on the fast break. Entering tonight, the Lynx rank first in the league with 14.8 fast break points per game, while Tulsa allows a league high 13.2 ppg. In their three meetings with Tulsa this year, Minnesota has averaged 14.7 fast break points per game, including tallying 21 in their most recent meeting.


  • Lindsay Whalen is in the midst of arguably the best year of her career, entering tonight averaging 18.3 points (on 50.5% shooting) and 6.3 assists over her last 15 games. Shes led the Lynx in scoring in seven of those games, including toping 20+ points in five of her last 11. Whalen has posted double-doubles in 2 of her last 3 games, including recording the first point/rebound double-double of her Lynx career in Chicago on Sunday. Entering tonight, she ranks second in the WNBA in assists (5.8 apg), 10th in scoring (a career-high 16.2 ppg) and 14th in field goal percentage (48.4%).


  • Maya Moore was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday, averaging 23.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game during the week. The award was the third such honor of her career and first of the season. Moore enters tonights game averaging 20.2 points (on 58.0% shooting), 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals in five August appearances.


  • Devereaux Peters made her first start of the season (third career) Sunday at Chicago, playing a season-high 44:49, the highest minute total for any Lynx player since Katie Smith logged 45 vs. Sacramento on Aug. 5, 2001. Peters is shooting 50.0% (21-for-42) in her last nine games after opening the year at 32.1% (18-for-56) through the first 13 games.
