Brunson Named All-Star Starter

Minnesota Lynx and Western Conference All-Star head coach Cheryl Reeve today announced that Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson will replace Brittney Griner in the Western Conference starting lineup for Saturday's Boost Mobile All-Star game. The lineup change comes after WNBA President Laurel J. Richie yesterday announced that Griner (sprained left knee) will not play and will be replaced on the Western Conference roster by Seattle's Tina Thompson. Brunson will join Lynx teammates Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore, both of whom were selected by fans to start, in the Western Conference starting lineup.

This year will mark the first time in franchise history the Lynx will have three All-Star starters, as well as the seventh time in league history a team has had three or more All-Star starters in the same year (Seattle 2009, Detroit 2007, Connecticut, 2006, New York 2001, Sacramento 2001, Houston 1999). This year is also the second time in franchise history the Lynx have had four representatives at the All-Star Game (2011) and just the sixth time in WNBA history (New York, 1999; Detroit, 2005; Connecticut, 2006; Houston, 2006) a team has had four or more All-Stars.

The Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game will be nationally broadcast on ABC this Saturday, July 27 at 2:30 p.m. CT from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
