The Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx will host their inaugural Black History Month essay contest beginning Friday, February 10th. Our creative writing contest will allow Minnesota youth to actively participate in learning about leaders in American Black History.

The contest, which will run until Friday, February 24th, will be judged by a panel including Timberwolves Guard Kris Dunn and Lynx Forward Rebekkah Brunson who will choose one grand prize winner and two consolation awards.

Submission Date Deadline: February 24th, 2017 | Winners Notified: March 6th, 2017

  • Essays should be between 500-750 words.
  • Essays should be submitted as an attachment and sent to no later than Friday, February 24th at 11:59PM.
  • All documents should include:
    – Student’s first and last name
    – School name
    – Grade
    – Teacher’s name
    – Guardian contact information and mailing address

  • A panel of judges including Timberwolves Guard Kris Dunn and Lynx Forward, Rebekkah Brunson will review the essays and select one (1) grand prize winner and two (2) consolation awards.


Grand Prize
The winning essay writer will receive:

  • Four (4) lower level to the Timberwolves Fan Appreciation game on Thursday, April 11th and a pregame bench sit.
  • Lynx tickets for the Tuesday, May 23rd game for their entire classroom (max 50 tickets) with a postgame meet & greet with Lynx Forward Rebekkah Brunson.

Consolation Prizes: Timberwolves & Lynx Gift Bag with signed Kris Dunn and Rebekkah Brunson photos.

* All participants in the essay contest will receive two (2) Timberwolves tickets to a game in March and a special ticket offer to attend a Lynx game in summer of 2017 at Xcel Energy Center.
